Found this at Zfacts.com. We all are feeling the pinch, but I can't imagine anyone paying $3.34 in March 1981 driving the gas guzzlers of that day.

The green mania seems to have caught up with software as well. Maryann Jones Thompson writes about how SAP, Intel and others have used technology to help customers reduce energy usage and add to the bottomline. Google has put up $10 M for research in green cars through it's rechargeIT project. If you are into green car tech, the RFP is here.
Trucost, an environmental research organization helps companies put a finger on these costs and assess business impact. According to the Trucost website "Fund managers and analysts increasingly need to know how environmental issues may have a financially material impact on companies' future earnings and make comparisons between companies in a given sector." Trucost claims based on a study of FTSE companies :
331 companies (of 551 in the FTSE All Share) have environmental impacts totalling more than 1% of turnover or USD1million, whichever is lower.
1M seems like peanuts for most large companies, but this might just be the tip of the iceberg. As global warming accelerates we could see this number rising substantially.
