Change in online social patterns - Broadbased or narrow.

Filed under: Consumer Internet — Prakash Muralidharan @ 11:03 pm
Shripriya brings up the fact that online social habits have changed a lot in the last few years. But is the change broad based from a demographics perspective or it is limited to some pockets ? Techcruch indicates that there are almost as many facebook users who are 35+ than teens and college goers put together. Sizlopedia paints a lopsided picture of Orkut users with 56% of users below 25. Comscore says "More than Half of MySpace Visitors are Now Age 35 or Older, as the Site’s Demographic Composition Continues to Shift". While each site has a dominant niche, put together, we seem to be getting broad based from a big picture perspective.
